10 students of the Ukrainian Catholic University received semester scholarships from
the Ihnatowycz Family Fund for Young Leaders – an initiative for forming a new
generation of leaders.

This is not the first time that scholarships have been awarded to talented UCU students who have demonstrated leadership qualities. Ihor (Ian) Ihnatowycz, a well-known Canadian entrepreneur and philanthropist of Ukrainian origin, has been supporting the university with his family for many years.
According to Sofia Opatskaya, founding dean of the UCU Business School and vice- rector for strategic development, the university has received over 1.2 million Canadian dollars in assistance from the Ihnatowycz Family Foundation: “These scholarships are intended for those who have the makings of a great leader. We believe that you will make the most of this opportunity not only in your studies, but also in your service and extracurricular activities,” Sofia Opatskaya addressed this year’s scholarship recipients. She said that she hopes that each student uses the scholarship in a way that is meaningful to him or her.

Andriy Hubar, Deputy Head of the UCU Development Department, said that Ihor Ihnatowycz recently became a new member of the Order of Canada, one of the highest civilian awards of the state: “Ihor Ihnatowycz’s success story can inspire many and teach us all a lot,” he emphasized.
Taras Oleksyn, project manager, lecturer at the UCU Leadership Center, noted that Ihor Ihnatowycz is not just an investor and a banker, but also a very holistic person. “This is a person who uses money as an investment in human capital. This human treasure for him is you, the students. The scholarship is an opportunity to thank you for the leadership you are showing now as students and to encourage you to further develop your leadership skills and potential,” said Taras Oleksyn.

The Dean of of Student Affairs, Ivanna Mohylyak, presented the scholarships and wished the students success in everything to which they set their minds.
This year’s scholarship recipients are:
Vanessa Parkhomenko – first year student in the “Ethics, Politics and Economics” program
Markian Luhovyj – first year student in the “Public Administration” program
Anna-Maria Kyrylyus – third year student in the “Law” program
Arsenij Bodnar – first year student in the “Ethics, Politics and Economics” program
Anna Karnaukhova – fourth year student in the “Ethics, Politics and Economics” program
Sofia Teklyuk – second year student in the “Psychology” program
Mark Stemkovskyj – third year student in the “Humanities: History” program
Lesia Toporowycz – third year student in the “Humanities: Culture Studies” program
Victoria Kravets – fourth year student in the “Ethics, Politics and Economics” program
Bozhena Hnidets – first year student in the “Sociology” program
