UCU Foundation is deeply pleased and grateful to announce a generous and transformative gift from the Temnycky Family. Dr. George and Roma Temnycky and Family have pledged $250,000 to create the Dr. George and Roma Temnycky and Family Associate Professorship Endowment.
“We want to ensure the university stays competitive and continues to attract and retain its world-class faculty,” said Dr. George and Roma Temnycky. “UCU’s students are the best in Ukraine. They deserve the best faculty in Ukraine. We love supporting UCU’s students with scholarships, which creates a tremendous impact one student at a time. We hope to create an even greater impact in hundreds of students’ lives through this associate professorship endowment.”
UCU Rector Taras Dobko remarked on the academic brain drain in Ukraine in a recent article. “An estimated 30% of 2024 high school graduates are likely to emigrate from the country. We need to find ways to motivate our students to stay in Ukraine, study here and then remain here to use their talents to rebuild the nation. Maintaining a rigorous academic program now and in the future will inspire students to choose UCU as their university.”

Endowed funds create a secure financial foundation for UCU and enable it to withstand future challenges and embrace growth and innovation. UCU Foundation currently manages a $15MM endowment fund in the United States, which includes 64 established endowed funds. Dividends from endowments support a variety of needs, and the Dr. George and Roma Temnycky and Family Associate Professorship Endowment will be one of the important ways that UCU can continue to attract and retain top talent for its faculty.
