As the academic year began, UCU proudly distributed scholarships to 385 talented students, made possible by generous donors from around the world. In total, 931 students in UCU’s undergraduate and graduate programs received financial scholarship assistance for the 2023-2024 academic year. Over $2MM was raised globally for this effort.

In particular, U.S. support of UCU was outstanding: more than $700,000 from U.S. donors was given to students in scholarship support for the 2023-2024 academic year. This included ten Ph.D. scholarships, 32 annual scholarships with room and board, 72 academic annual and 42 semester scholarships. In addition to the raised funds, $69,800 was distributed from UCU Foundation scholarship endowments.

As part of the induction ceremony, UCU Rector Taras Dobko thanked scholarship donors for their generosity. Without scholarship support, many of these students would not be able to attend UCU. Many students were visibly moved to receive the scholarships and spoke about the value of an UCU education, not simply from an academic standpoint, but also as an opportunity to grow as part of a faith-filled community.

One of the amazing benefits of these scholarships is the desire fostered in the students to “return” the investment. They intend to make their education worthy of the gift they have received.

“I will work hard to become a professional in my field. Your scholarship is an investment in my future, and I am obliged to return this investment by working to improve the lives of others.”

–Andriyana Kalka, 1st year of the Master’s Program, Physical and Occupational Therapy

“Your support is immensely valuable, and I pledge to study diligently and work towards the advancement of our community and our country. I promise to live up to your expectations, and one day, I hope to become a benefactor for other students.”
