Ukrainian Catholic University received two awards of the third DOU Awards event. UKU was recognized as the best IT university of Ukraine for the third time. The university also won an award for the best socially oriented IT initiative – the “Entrepreneurship for Veterans” program.
The UCU Lifelong Learning School worked together with Universe Group and Genesis for Ukraine on the program for veterans.
The presentation of the third DOU Awards took place on March 19th in Kyiv. According to the organizers, the winners were chosen by a mixed panel: some were from the DOU editorial board and some were from the developer community along with experts in the field. The competition was held in 12 categories – UCU received awards in two of those categories.
In particular, the Ukrainian Catholic University won the award as the best IT university for the third time. The award was presented to the first vice-rector of UCU Yaroslav Prytula and the dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences Oles Dobosevych. Every year, the faculty maintains its first place among universities, admitting students with the highest admission scores in the country.
“For the Ukrainian Catholic University, an award from the DOU community is an important indicator of trust from applicants, their parents, our students, graduates, partners, and donors. At the same time, it is a big responsibility. After all, we have to set a high bar in order to live up to expectations regarding the quality of knowledge and skills acquired at UCU. The award from DOU is a recognition of the work of the entire university community, which motivates us to become even better, to do good deeds that bring the victory of Ukraine closer,” said Yaroslav Prytula.
The first vice-rector of UCU added that in this way the university also motivates the best UCU graduates to remain in Ukraine and study here, get a quality education and work for the good of the state.
Entrepreneurship training for veterans from the UCU Lifelong Learning School, Universe Group and Genesis for Ukraine was recognized by DOU as the best socially oriented IT initiative. The Veteran Entrepreneurship Certificate Program is a comprehensive educational initiative that combines online learning, mentoring, and a hands-on intensive program for veterans who are developing their own businesses.
“The best recognition for us comes from the program participants themselves, their feedback, their implemented projects and those who received grants for developing and scaling their businesses. It is a great honor to receive an award from the DOU community for our joint project with Universe Group and Genesis for Ukraine. This is another confirmation that we are doing important things in wartime. We thank our partners for their cooperation, trust and synergy,” shared Roksolyana Voronovska, head of the Lifelong Learning School and the UCU Online platform.
During the “Entrepreneurship for Veterans” program, participants studied finance, marketing, management, business strategy and communications under the guidance of Ukrainian Catholic University teachers and Universe Group experts. Veterans analyzed real business cases, worked on the development of their own ideas, received advice from mentors and top managers and also had access to other courses specific to their interests.
Near the end of the program, they presented their business projects, worked out business plans with mentors, tested ideas and prepared presentations of their entrepreneurial initiatives before a jury. According to the results of the competition, three participants of the program received grants for the development of their own businesses – one for $30,000, two for $10,000.
