Sviatoslav Lushney, a 1st-year student in the Computer Sciences Bachelor’s Program of the UCU Faculty of Applied Sciences and a graduate of the Lviv Physics-Mathematics Lyceum, earned a gold medal at the 14th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics, (IOAA) among high school and college students from 48 countries. This year’s competition was conducted in the online Columbia format.

The Olympiad has three individual tours and one as a team. Ten participants represented the team chosen for Ukraine. Ukrainians, in addition to the gold medal, won three silver and 6 bronze medals.

“For the team tour, our task involved researching the temperature and velocity component of our galaxy,” said Sviatoslav Lushney about the specifics of the competition. “In general, the Olympiad went fairly quickly, especially when one considers how tiring the competition is. I liked solving interesting problems and looking for different ways to solve them. Now I’m a little sad that it’s all over.”
